Deep within the captivating rolling fields, resided a boy named Shepherd. His life was mostly unadulterated, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was mainly to look after his herd of rams.

Their low murmuring and the murmuring of the gales among the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day upon day, guarding his charges inculcated in him a sense of calm satisfaction.

However, there were occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.

Stories of predators hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One day he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a here wolf attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but found nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick persisted for a couple of more days. But, one day, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to receive a lesson on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of false alarms. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once violated, is tough to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
